A football club boss has submitted plans for 103 homes in a village.

The application by Colchester United’s chairman Robbie Cowling has been described as part of a “Masterplan for Tiptree”.

It includes a mixture of two to five-bedroom homes and parking, a 6,000 square metre village green with play area and pond, and 16 allotments.

Cash for the sale of homes would help fund development of the nearby new training ground at Florence Park and support its on going upkeep.

Mr Cowling said: “We think it is a good proposal, it is an area of Tiptree where the school nearby has room for more children to come in and adds well to the village.

“Being on the A12 side of the village it won’t have much impact on the traffic, and we think it has a lot going for it.”
