Maldon district: 'Tango Smithy' is volunteer of the year
A Special Constable still serving the Maldon district at the age of 68 has proved there is plenty of life left in him yet by scooping a top policing accolade.
Keith Smith, 68, of Maldon’s Neighbourhood Police Team, was given the Special Constable of the Year award in recognition of his policing achievements in the Maldon district.
Mr Smith, who has volunteered as a special constable for over 15 years, often focuses on policing traffic, earning him the nickname Tango Smithy.
A spokesman for the senior command team at Essex Police said: “At sixty eight years old Keith Smith is currently one of the oldest serving special officers but his commitment to the Special Constabulary puts many of his younger colleagues to shame."
