Burnham: Pensioner victim of attempted phone scam Burnham: Pensioner victim of attempted phone scam

A pensioner is urging residents to be on their guard after she was called by a phone scammer.

Pamela Clark, 73, of Winstree Road, Burnham, received a call by a company called Protection Services, asking her to provide bank details so they could take money out of her account.

The company claimed she had filled out a form to use their services and wanted to bill her £49.

Mrs Clark said: “They called me and said they were taking £49 out of my account but I knew nothing about it. I had never heard of them before.

“They wanted me to give my bank details over the phone but there’s no way they were going to take money from me."

I got a call like that, too. Told me I subscribed to their magazine and been billed for it. However, the credit card information I provided wasn't working so they were asking for a different card number. When I asked the caller what card they had on file, she couldn't tell me "for security reasons." I hung up and reported the phone number to http://callercenter.
