Burnham: Councillors want speed camera in town

Town councillors are looking into installing a speed camera in Burnham.
Councillor Jack Sheppard suggested at Thursday’s town council meeting that the speed indicator sign in Maldon Road did not have any effect.
He said: “I don’t think a sign actually works because we still get complaints about speeding. A yellow jacket works.
“There needs to be a punitive measure.”
Councillor Mrs Louise Pudney suggested installing a speed camera on the road and councillors decided to pursue the idea.

If the council are so eager to stamp-out speeding, how about starting with the refuse collector drivers, who appear to use the town as a private race track on a Monday/Tuesday.
Furthermore does Ms Elliot propose to use council tax payers money to the tune of several thousands of pounds to pay/maintain the installation? Lastly who will benefit from any revenue raised? Burnham town council, Essex county council or indeed Essex police?

Sums up the whole approach by anyone given the smallest amount of power.
Completely avoids constructively solving the issue, if there is one, by acting the big man.
Utterly pathetic posturing by these amateurs

YES .. Some people foolishly drive over the speed limit along Maldon Road
NO.. Surely there are more important places for genuine road safety initiatives around Burnham .. Places where people get injured and vehicles get bent
1/ Fiveways junction .. A nightmare for pedestrians, cars, motorbikes and cycles alike
2/ The Burnham Bends .. Cars/MotorBikes in ditches most months and HGVs driving on the wrong side of the road most days/nights
3/ Eves Corner .. Nasty bend/junction / careless drivers going far too fast
Suggestion to Mrs Elliott and Mrs Pudney - Focus action where there are serious problems today; when you've fixed them, get to secondary issues like Maldon Road and address them
