Even more houses could be built in the district, as Maldon District Council is said to be considering increasing plans for 3,000 homes by 2029.
Burnham town councillors discussed the situation at Thursday’s town council meeting and have branded it “a concern”.
The proposed development already affects Heybridge (900 homes), south of Maldon (1,250), North Fambridge (300) and land west of Burnham (450).
Councillor Mike Wood learnt about the possibility of extra homes in a meeting with Maldon District Council’s head of planning Derek Lawrence.
He said: “Mr Lawrence said that the 3,000 houses is likely to be increased, he said it’s not sacrosanct but it’s likely.
“I asked whether he has any idea how many houses are being given any consideration outside the development boundary.
“He said yes, a little more than a trickle."
