Anxious businesses are on their guard after burglars raided a Burnham dentists, just days after an armed robbery in the town.

Burglars broke into HJ & JE McFarlane Dental Surgery, in Station Road, and stole and emptied a safe, before dumping it in nearby Western Road.

Police said the safe contained about £400, which is known to have included winnings from a lottery syndicate that staff had been saving for Christmas.

The raid was the second time in less than a week that crooks had targeted one of the town’s business and sparked concern among the business community.

Lara Chapman, manager of Yours 4 Sport, in Station Road, described the trend as “worrying”.
