Dignitaries attended a special ceremony to rededicate trees planted in memory of soldiers killed during the First World War.
Families of the war heroes planted 180 in Maldon’s Promenade Park, with plaques dedicated to each one, on November 27, 1935.
However, some of the trees have been lost to disease and the plaques were removed before the current Maldon District Council came into being.
Today the council unveiled a new memorial display board bearing the names of the soldiers from Maldon and Heybridge.
Three new trees were also planted and more are planned to replace the 22 that had been lost over time.
