Burnham: Tributes paid to well-respected headteacher

Tributes have been paid to a well-respected Burnham headteacher who has died at the age of 89.

Former St Peter’s High School headteacher Bill Clark-Lewis was a distinguished local figure, prominent in the world of sailing and highly regarded by former pupils of the school.
 

Burnham Rotary Club member Eric Newton, who was friends with Mr Clark-Lewis for 32 years, said: “He was seen as a strict but fair disciplinarian at St Peter’s and

stood no nonsense as he swept through the corridors.”
 

But what is not so well known is his life before his appointment to St Peters’ in 1965.
 

He was commissioned in the Intelligence Corps in 1942 and not only did he interrogate German prisoners of war, but he also spent time at the code-breaking hub in Bletchley Park.
