A 26-year-old from the Southend area was arrested by police officers from the marine unit following an incident on the River Crouch near North Fambridge.
On November 26 there was an alleged collision between two fishing boats.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage under the Merchant Shipping Act.
“He has been bailed until February 1 next year while enquiries continue.”
