Maldon: I was ignored by dignitaries, claims gamesmaker

A Paralympic volunteer has voiced her disappointment amid claims she was ignored by dignitaries at an event to mark the Games.
Retired Beryl Munro attended Longfields open space in Maldon after the district council encouraged members of the public to come along and share their memories of the Games earlier this month.
Yet despite donning her bright crimson and purple gamesmaker uniform for the occasion, Mrs Munro of Newham Green, Maldon, said: “Not one dignitary welcomed me, spoke to me or thanked me for being part of such a successful Games.”
A council spokesman said: “The official opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Avenue was an open invitation to anyone who wished to attend.
“The chairman, as part of his speech, welcomed everyone who had attended and those who had helped in the creation of the avenue from the schools to those who had planted the crocuses as part of the project."
