Cold Norton: Parliament mention for village pub
9:00am Friday 16th November 2012 in Local News By Emma Robinson
MP Brandon Lewis enjoys a pint with volunteers at the Norton.
A minister has toasted the success of a community-run pub.
Brandon Lewis MP visited The Norton pub, in Latchingdon Road, Cold Norton, earlier this month to celebrate the community’s success in reaching £80,000 deposit to buy the freehold.
The pub has been run by a group of volunteer residents for three years.
Mr Lewis said: "The Norton is not just a cracking pub, a lively atmosphere and vital local business but it is a true example of a resident run pub run that is now firmly in the hands of the whole community.
“I wish it every success.”
Paul Guppy, a member of the pub’s organising committee, said: “I think he was quite impressed with how well we have done and how we have achieved it on our own.
“He even mentioned us in a parliament debate on the beer tax escalator, which means The Norton will be named in Hansard.
“We are going to get a copy and have it framed in the pub."
