Maldon: Residents out in droves to attend town's Remembrance Day parade
Record crowds turned out in Maldon to pay tribute to fallen servicemen and women on Remembrance Sunday.
Among the crowd of more than 500 people gathered around the war memorial outside All Saints’ Church, in High Street, was Canadian Paul Delorme, who arrived in England in 1941 to join the South Saskatchewan Regiment – part of the 2nd Canadian Division.
Mr Delorme, who now lives in Maldon, was on the seaborne raid in Dieppe in 1942 when 907 Canadians were killed and 1,946 more captured and taken prisoners.
The 92-year-old was badly injured and treated in a Prisoner of War camp hospital.
On Sunday, medals he had received for his exploits in the Second World War were presented to his grandson Darwin Delorme, who was visiting from Canada.
