The future of the Dengie’s picturesque landscape has been put on hold after an inquiry into whether a wind farm should be built on the Burnham Marshes was delayed.

With wind farms at Hockley Farm, in Bradwell, and Middlewick Farm, near Southminster, already approved on appeal, determined campaigners are desperate to save the rest of the area.

Maldon District Council refused the plans for seven 125 metre-high turbines to be built on Turncole Farm, between Burnham and Southminster, in October last year.

But RES lodged an 11th-hour appeal earlier this year in a bid to have the decision overturned.

A public inquiry, scrutinising the council’s decision to rebuff the proposals on the grounds of visual and noise impact, as well as environmental issues, was due to start at the council offices on Tuesday, but has now been put back until April.
