An initiative to bring the district’s empty homes back to life has been celebrated on TV.

Channel Four’s Great British Property Scandal programme, hosted by George Clarke, showed Maldon District Council’s success in turning an empty house into a home fit for a family.

The programme, which aired last Wednesday, followed the renovation of the home to the successful occupation by a young mother and her child.

TV presenter Mr Clarke said on the show that the council had a “brilliant” grant scheme to help private owners refurbish empty properties.

He added: “It just proves it can be done in an affordable way way where there is a willingness with the council and the owner.”
