A skip hire company and its director have been fined after running an illegal waste site in Maldon.

Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court heard how RRR Recycling Solutions, which hires skips to builders, was using Bates Road Yard in Maldon to store skips full of waste without being authorised by an environmental permit.

Anne-Lise McDonald, prosecuting for the Environment Agency, said that Environment Agency officers had seen RRR Recycling skips stored at the yard in February and March last year.

She said that the company’s director, Timothy Rushbrook, had been contacted and informed that he needed a permit to store waste.

But, in May 2011, there were still 15 RRR Recycling skips on the site - 12 of which contained mixed waste including green waste, metals, soils, concrete, rubble and builders’ waste.

Rushbrook and RRR Recycling Solutions both admitted storing waste without an environmental permit between October 2010 and May this year.

Each were fined £500 and ordered to pay a contribution of £1,000 towards prosecution costs.
