Southminster: We need a secret millionaire

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Southminster: We need a secret millionaire Southminster: We need a secret millionaire

Parents and children are appealing for a secret millionaire to help them raise £60,000 for a skate park.

Grandmother Liz Smith is spearheading a campaign to bring a skatepark to Southminster at the request of many of the youngsters living there.

Longthornes Chemist shop assistant Mrs Smith, 59, of Station Road, said she had already obtained the green light from the parish council for permission to create the park on the Memorial Field.

How about the kids organise some fundraising events? It'll keep them busy and it'll give them a sense of achievement in that they've done something to make it happen. Might also be an incentive to keep it tidy and looked after too. At the moment they're skateboarding on the roads and pavements - this is just an accident waiting to happen (it's already dark for a large part of the day and it won't be long before the snow and ice is here). Are there not lottery grants, or help with funding from other schemes, available?
