Maldon's picturesque skyline will be lit up as one of the most eagerly-anticipated events in the town’s calendar returns.

Thousands of people descend on Maldon each year for its riverside fireworks spectacular, which takes place in Promenade Park and has now been running for 39 years.

Organisers, the Rotary Club of Maldon, were optimistic that tomorrow's showpiece can more than match last year’s event.

Gates for the event open at 5.30pm, with the bonfire due to be lit at 7pm and the fireworks display scheduled to start at 7.30pm.

Tickets bought in advance cost £5 for adults and £3 for children, and are available from Maldon Tourist Information Centre and Morrison’s supermarket.

They will also be sold outside Marks & Spencer, in High Street, until 2pm today and from 9am to 4pm tomorrow.

Tickets bought on the gate will cost £6 for adults and £4 for children. All proceeds will go to local charities.
