Burnham Town Council has been blasted for ignoring residents’ pleas to fund a planning consultant to fight proposals for 450 new homes in the town.

Councillors decided to not engage in a planning consultant at the moment at last Wednesday’s town council meeting.

The decision comes after several hundred residents voted to spend the extra £25,000 of the town council’s precept on a planning consultant at an August meeting.

But councillors decided they needed more time to consider how to spend the money.

Councillors raised the idea last night, after some councillors expressed their shock at it not being on the agenda.

Cllr Ron Pratt said on the idea: “I firmly believe we have to wait and have it in our minds to employ someone but not until we are ready.

“I think it’s premature.”
