Man rescued from River Blackwater

A YOUNG man was rescued from the water off West Mersea after the dinghy he was in overturned.

A 999 call was made to Thames Coastguard around 3pm on Tuesday when a member of the public spotted the dinghy in trouble in the River Blackwater, about a quarter of a mile from the shore.

Mersea Coastguard Team and the West Mersea RNLI inshore lifeboat were sent to help.

The man did not require any medical attention and the dinghy was towed back to the shore.
