FURIOUS residents have hit out after sewage from a new housing development began leaking into neighbour's driveways.

Taylor Wimpey is building more than 90 homes in Stanway between Warren Lane and Dyers Road in a new scheme called Pava Place.

As part of the works, the housing company has built a new sewer to service the homes once they are completed.

But for the last three weeks, foul smelling sewage has begun leaking into driveways outside home in nearby Dyers Road.

Andrew Humphreys, who has lived in the road for more than 30 years, said he has frustrated at the lack of action by the developer.

He said: "Back in the summer a new sewer was put in to service Pava Place.

"But since just before Christmas it has begun leaking and flooding into Dyers Road.

"At first we reported it to Anglian Water who told us it has not yet been adopted by them."

Mr Humphreys has since reported the issue to the Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and to Taylor Wimpey themselves.

He said: "Taylor Wimpey do not seem to be doing anything about it.

"There are four cars on our road which are being put underneath six inches of water which smells absolutely foul.

"It happened again on Wednesday and they said they were escalating the problem but it just keeps happening.

"It is coming out of two man hole covers which were put in with the new sewer.

"The most frustrating thing is Taylor Wimpey just don't seem to really care.

"At the start we found it difficult to even get hold of them, but finally managed to speak to somebody at the weekend and at first they said they couldn't do anything.

"Obviously at the moment there is nobody in the houses but with so many houses going up there will be a large team of builders who will have to go to the toilet somewhere."

A spokesman for Taylor Wimpey Said: “We have located a blockage in a section of drainage not completed by Taylor Wimpey at Parva Place. "In an attempt to assist with the issue, we deployed our contractors on the morning of Wednesday and plan to flush through the paperwork.

"Taylor Wimpey as a goodwill gesture will also be cleaning the tarmac to the affected neighbouring properties once the flush through of the pipework has been completed.”
