Police are investigating reports that a man in his 70s has been the victim of fraud.

The victim was contacted by an unknown suspect, who claimed to be a police officer at around 4.30pm on November 14.

The suspect encouraged the victim to visit his bank, and to put his savings into his current account.

The victim then attended a jewellers to buy a luxury watch.

All the while, the suspect was on the phone with the victim.

Staff at the jewellers, which is on Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, questioned the victim about the purchase.

Fortunately, having recognised it as an attempted fraud, the shop staff called the police.
