A MAN has appeared in court today following an incident where a fast-food delivery driver was shot at through a car window.

The attack took place shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday in Beach Road, Clacton.  The driver, believed to work for the Favorite Chicken takeaway in Rosemary Road, Clacton, was shot at through the closed passenger window of his car.

He then crashed his car into a van whilst trying to escape.

Police have now confirmed that Elton Dsain, 24, unemployed, of Agincourt Road, Hampstead Heath, London, has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent.

He appeared before Colchester Magistrates' Court earlier today and will remain in custody before he appears at Chelmsford Crown Court on December, 15.

Two men aged 27 and 28, both from London, who were arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of possession of firearms offences, were released on bail until December, 7 pending further enquiries.

The 23-year-old man from Clacton and a 26-year-old woman from Great Bentley, who were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of firearms offences, were also released on bail until December, 7.

Police have assured the public in a statement they believe this attack is targeted and there is no risk to the wider public.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring councillor responsible for the Pier ward, said he was concerned to hear of the incident.

He said: “There’s been a number of incidents happening like this over the past few months and this has got to be one of the worst.

“I’ve been quite critical of the police in the past but it’s clear they have acted quickly so all credit to them.”
