A young woman who started a charity to help African children after visiting Ghana during a gap year has been supported by a local rotary club.
Jemma Williams visited Chelmsford Phoenix Rotary Club to talk about the Brightlingsea Free School in Ghana, which opened in September 2016.
Phoenix members have raised money to provide a pump for the well and are also in the process of filling 36 backpacks with pens, pencils, balloons, crayons, small toys, etc to be sent out to the school, together with dictionaries for the children.
Jemma visited Ghana during a gap year and later went on to start Porridge and Pens. The organisation provides more than 70 children with a space at the school where they also receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch.
