AN MP who fought to protect NHS services has welcomed the decision to keep minor injuries units open.
Earlier this year the North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group launched a consultation into the future of the services, and it was feared units in Colchester, Clacton and Harwich could be closed to save money. But bosses voted unanimously at a recent board meeting to keep the units open and hope they will eventually take on more services to take the pressure off the A&E department at Colchester General Hospital.
Witham MP Priti Patel said: “Stanway, Tiptree and surrounding communities will join with me in welcoming the decision to introduce new services for Colchester.
“I responded to the NHS consultation, making it clear that services must be enhanced to meet local patient needs.
“I have a record of delivery on health issues and have been actively promoting the voice of my constituents to secure more high quality NHS services.
“Following my re-election as MP for Witham, I will continue to work with local hospitals and GPs to prioritise my constituent’s healthcare needs and ensure patients continue to have access to a world class NHS.”
