AN identical twin has appeared in court charged with giving police her sister’s details when she was stopped for driving without insurance.

Shannon Taylor admitted she was behind the wheel of the car which was stopped by police in Colchester last year during a short hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court today.

But the 22-year-old, of Magdalen Street, Colchester, denied perverting the course of justice by incorrectly giving her sister's details and told the court there had been a “misunderstanding”.

It is alleged Taylor, who yesterday wore all black under a white jacket, was stopped by traffic police on May 27, 2016, on suspicion of driving without insurance.

Court documents state when she was asked for her details, she gave her twin sister Samantha’s name and address.

The document also states her sister was subsequently summonsed to court.

Taylor was initially due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court last month but she did not appear.

An warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest.

She will stand trial at Chelmsford Crown Court later this year.
