THE search is on for green-fingered volunteers to help branch out with a tree planting scheme in Dovercourt next month.

Around 100 trees will be put into the ground at Cliff Park, one of Tendring District Council’s prestigious Green Flag sites.

The Green Flag judges put forward a suggestion of increasing the biodiversity as part of their feedback last year.

Now TDC is looking to add a number of species which include field maple, birch, hawthorn, oak, hazel, rowan and blackthorn at a planting session to be held on Saturday March 4.

They have been specifically chosen for their flowers, seeds and fruit aiding insect life as well as their ability to provide important shelter and food sources.

The Council recently took delivery of a number of trees as well as other items as part of the ‘I Dig Trees - Ready.Steady Grow’ initiative with TVC - The Conservation Volunteers.

Over the year TVC aims to plant more than 250,000 new trees in over 1,250 green spaces in the UK .

Volunteers are required to help with the planting and are asked to arrive at the bandstand in Cliff Park at 10am. Stout footwear and gloves are recommended.

Michael Talbot, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said; “The Council is always looking to deliver a quality environment, whether it is our Green Flag sites or our many other open spaces.

“We enjoy a good response to our request for volunteers and I am sure this event at Cliff Park will be no different.”
