A RESTAURANT was evacuated after a gas leak.
Staff at Wimpey's, in Colchester High Street, have been told they are not allowed into the eatery after gas started escaping from pipes in the pavement outside.
Abbotts next door is also closed.
Staff said they had not been told how long the leak would be going on for.
Workers at the National Grid are currently working on the problem, which began around 7pm last night.
