Chelmsford's Indian community celebrated Christmas and the New Year with a night of drama, dance, music and fashion.

More than 300 people attended the event at the Marconi Hall on Saturday, January 7, which was organised by the Chelmsford Indian Association.

The audience, consisting mostly of British Indians living in and around the city, were all decked in traditional dress for the celebrations.

As well as the on-stage entertainment, they enjoyed an authentic three-course Indian meal and ended the evening with dancing as a DJ played popular Bollywood tunes.

Ted Martin, secretary of the Chelmsford Indian Association, said highlights included a kids' fashion show and a dance drama in one of the local Indian dialects. He added: "All in all, it was a fantastic evening filled with lots of fun, good food and the opportunity to meet other British Indians."
