FIREFIGHTERS were called to Stanway after an overloaded socket caused a fire in a first floor flat.

Crews were called to Holly Road at 3.20pm yesterday.

When they arrived the fire was out but the flat was full of smoke.

Crews ventilated the property and assisted a woman suffering with smoke inhalation. She was left in the care of the ambulance service.

Station Manager Danny Partridge said: "The fire is thought to have been caused by an overloaded socket.

"It is vital not to overload plug sockets. There should not be anymore than 13 amps worth of appliances in one plug socket at one time."

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "The call came in at 3.27pm for a flat fire in Holly Road.

"We sent our hazardous area response team, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and an ambulance officer.

"There were four patients assisted. Three of them sustained no injuries and were discharged at the scene.

"The fourth patient, a woman believed to be in her twenties, was treated for minor smoke inhalation and was discharged at the scene."
