A TAXI spun out of control and smashed through a garden wall.

The Renault Trafic was travelling from Colchester to Ardleigh when it crashed into a red-brick garden wall, in Colchester Road, Ardleigh.

No-one was injured in the smash, which happened at about 10.40am yesterday, and no arrests have been made.

Eyewitness Dave Halsey, who lives in the road, said: “It’s just down to good grace that there were no injuries at all.

“There is substantial damage to the wall, though.

“I would say there is more than £3,000 of damage there. I just hope the car is insured.”

Mr Halsey said it is not the first time a car has ploughed off the road at the corner of Colchester Road and Wick Lane.

Last year, a car damaged a 40mph speed limit sign, less than 10ft feet from the wall.

Mr Halsey added: “I know the parish council had to fight for a long time to get that fixed.

“It is becoming a problem corner unfortunately.”

The Gazette attempted to contact the homeowner but no response was received.

A spokeswoman for Hawaii Five-O confirmed one of its drivers, a 30-year-old man, was involved in the crash.

She also said she had made contact with the homeowner to apologise on the company’s behalf.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at about 10.40am yesterday with reports a Renault Trafic was in collision with a garden wall in Colchester Road, Ardleigh.

“No-one was injured [and] the vehicle was recovered by 11.20am.”
