The Friends of Hylands House have celebrated their 20th anniversary and 7th anniversary of their bookshop by opening a new gallery.

The new extension to the Stable Visitor's Centre will enable artists to display their work seven days a week.

Lord Petre President of the Friends of Hylands House cut the red ribbon officially opening the new  light and spacious extension.

The extension is housed in the existing lean too and has been sympathetically restored and fully glazed, in keeping with the Gift Shop and Café also found within the Stable Visitor Centre.

The bookshop and Gallery is fully accessible so everyone can enjoy this lovely facility.

Staffed by the volunteers of the Friends of Hylands House the Bookshop is open 7 days per week along with the Gift shop and Café, and stocks a wide selection of topics as well as some older and rare editions along with numerous wonderful books on Essex

You can visit the Artists’ at work in their studios Sundays and Mondays throughout the year.

The Friends of Hylands House Bookshop has raised over £100,000 and is committed to supporting the ongoing restoration and development of Hylands working closely with Chelmsford City Council.

The Friends have been involved with many projects within the Estate and Hylands House.

One of the major projects other than the contribution to the restoration of Hylands House was the restoration of the clock and clock tower including the clock face and weather vane which can be found at the Stable Visitor Centre; you can go and view the old clocks working on the first floor.
