AN airline has announced a new route to the Canary Islands from Southend Aiport.

easyJet will fly to Lanzarote twice a week throughout the winter with flights starting on November 6.

The airline expects to fly 600 passengers a week to and from Lanzarote which is famed for its volcanic landscape, expansive beaches and guaranteed sunshine, make it a perfect choice for some last minute winter sun.

The announcement comes just a week after easyJet said it would also be starting new flights to Lyon this winter and brings the number of destinations offered by the airline at Southend to 15.

Neil Slaven, UK commercial manager at easyJet, said: “Having just added Lyon to the range of destinations offered from Southend, we’re delighted to be adding another new route to Lanzarote.

With the addition of new affordable routes, we are catering for the demand from passengers in the region who wish to fly from the airport.

“We are sure Lanzarote will be a firm favourite for those looking for a winter break."

London Southend Airport Chief Commercial Officer Roger Clements said: "We are absolutely delighted that easyJet is now offering another route from London Southend. With excellent access, our own station and car parks right next to the terminal, superb customer service - and now even more fantastic destinations - it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing simply easier Southend."
