ANOTHER weekend is upon us and there's plenty going on in south Essex to keep you entertained. 

1. THE Robin Hood Game and Country Show will be taking place at Garon Park, off Eastern Avenue, Southend, on July 4 and 5.

Organisers promise spectacular displays and demonstrations, from the likes of knights, vikings, archers, horses, falcons, dogs, and even ferrets.

There will also be more than 200 stalls. Admission on the gate is £10 for adults, children aged between five and 16 get in for £5, and under fives, free.

2. Chelmsford’s Fling Festival kicks off this Saturday.

The Fling Festival is like no other with live music, surreal theatre, fantastical storytelling and curious sideshows.

Headlining this year’s musical feast will be the world-renowned Dub Pistols, Renegade Brass Band, “the best brass band working out of Britain!”, and BBC 6 Music’s Shaun Keaveny will be making a very special DJ set appearance, and the Festival also welcomes Leddra Chapman, hailed as one of the most gifted young songwriters in Britain today.

3. Southend’s annual Colourthon will be held this Saturday evening.

The charity event is organised on behalf of the Southend Round Table and has raised £1.1million for 722 different organisations since it began back in 2007.

This year’s festival of colour will include the daytime Sunlight event, primarily for the under 16s, a tenkilometre Twilight event around Southend by night, and the main Moonlight half marathon walk around Southend.

Anyone entering the Colourthon must nominate a registered charity they will collect sponsorship money for.

4. FINAL preparations are underway for the annual Castle Point Show.

This year?s show will take place on Sunday July 5 at the Waterside Farm Showground in Somnes Avenue, Canvey.

Last year around 6,000 people enjoyed the show.

There will be arts and crafts, donkey rides, bouncy castles and entertainment throughout the day.

Canvey Transport Museum will have a number of vehicles on show and there will also be a football tournament and a display by the emergency services.

Castle Point Borough Council has again set up a shuttle service which will be running from 10.30am to 4.30pm between the showground and School Lane car park in South Benfleet and The Paddocks Community Centre, Canvey Island. Parking at both sites is free and the car park at School Lane is also right next to the train station for visitors arriving by rail.

Transport is being provided by the Castle Point Transport Museum, who will be giving residents a free ride in their vintage buses.

The show will be held at Waterside Farm Showground between 11am to 4pm. Entrance is ?1 for adults and free for children.

5. The River Crouch Celebrations 2015 brings together eight towns and villages from both sides of the river to gather, share and create stories through arts projects that celebrate the River – its role in the past, its present but unseen beauty, and the potential it has to benefit the community in the future.

Eight large scale silk flags, inspired and painted by people from each village, will be collected by the walkers as they pass each place, each day, on their 100 mile walk.

This will culminate in a crossing of the River Crouch from South Woodham Ferrers to Hullbridge for a celebratory Feast Day on Saturday, July 4.

6. A Farmers Market selling a wide range of produce, including meat, vegetables, cheese, pies, Indian food, honey, bread plus organic gardening information will be held from 9.30am on Saturday at the WI Hall, West Street, Rochford.

7. The Brentwood and Billericay Group of the Essex Wildlife Trust is again mounting its popular Art Exhibition and Sale at Thorndon Countryside Centre, opening on Saturday, July 4, and continuing for two weeks. Many Essex artists will be exhibiting and selling their work, and all sales will benefit the Trust. This event, now in its 21st year, gives Essex people the opportunity to see and purchase a wide variety of high quality works of art from artists all over the county. All the pictures are for sale at reasonable prices, and the profits will support the Trust’s work of securing a better future for Essex wildlife.

8. Leigh on sea Vintage and Handmade Fair will be held at the community centre in Elm Road this Saturday from 10am until 4pm. There is an exciting and eclectic mix of vintage clothing, jewellery, homewares, vintage inspired fashion and designer makers. Over 40 stalls providing a unique shopping experience. Visit the cafe for tea and cake to recharge.

9. Terling Church Fete will be held on Saturday from 12pm until 3pm. Terling Church Green will host a country and western group as well as stalls selling cakes, books, crafts and local honey. There will also be a dog show at 2pm.

10. Music in the park will be held this weekend at Southend Bandstand in Priory Park. On Sunday, July 5 the excellent Tilbury Brass Band will present an afternoon of music for brass to suit all tastes. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music. www.southend.gov.uk/bandstand.
