NEW images of how Colchester’s former bus depot could look asamuseum have been revealed.

Colchester Council bought the former First Bus site in Queen Street, last year and has unveiled plans turn it into the Wonderhouse.

“Internationally significant”

artefacts, in storage because there is no place for them at Colchester Castle Museum, will go on show.

The council wants residents’ views on the proposals. Tim Young, councillor responsible for licensing, community safety and culture, said it was impossible at present to display everything that was in storage.

He said: “The Wonderhouse is an exciting project which will add to Colchester’s already rich heritage offer. It will be a real draw for residents and tourists.

Colchester is extremely lucky to haveawealth of internationally- significant objects. The Wonderhouse will give people the opportunity to discover and appreciate them for the first time.

“It will also unveil a vital piece of the town's previously hidden Roman Wall.

“It will create a launch pad to explore Colchester’s many historic sites. I’d invite residents and visitors to complete our survey and let us know their views on this project.”

The council has not revealed howmuch the project will cost.

It will be paid for partly by selling the Museum Resource Centre, in Ryegate Road, where the exhibits are stored, but the council has admitted it will have to get grants.
