ENJOY a summer full of live ballet, opera and Shakespearean plays at the Chelmsford Picture House.

Over the next few months audience members can relax in the Cramphorn Studio and enjoy live screenings of performances from world-class venues around the world such as the Royal Opera House in London, the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon.

One of the most popular operas, La Bohème, will be screened from the Royal Opera House on Wednesday, June 10 followed by the screening of a live performance of Guillaume Tell (William Tell) from the same venue on Sunday, July 12.

Fans of ballet can enjoy the powerful pre-recorded screening of Ivan The Terrible from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on Sunday, June 14.

Drawing on the music composed by Prokofiev for the 1944 Eisenstein film, Ivan The Terrible is a work in the true Bolshoi style.

A live screening of the Shakespearean play The Merchant of Venice, broadcast from the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, can be seen in the Cramphorn Studio on Wednesday, July 22.

It tells the tale of a merchant in 16th century Venice who must default on a large loan provided by an abused Jewish moneylender.

The romantic comedy unfolds as dramatic scenes take place, intertwined with some of Shakespeare’s most famous character speeches.

Tickets for all live cinema events are £14.50 and £13.00 for concessions.
