The Wilderness Foundation have announced that The Women in Business Network have teamed up to support their Wild Swans programme and raise money to enable teenage girls in one of the most disadvantaged areas in South Africa to go to school.

Members of the charity and volunteers are travelling to South Africa on May 1 to deliver a bespoke WILD SWANS programme in a local community in Sedgefield.

The town lies within a region of small rural towns and farms.

It is an area of high unemployment, teen pregnancy, high levels of domestic abuse, drug and alcohol use and lack of education opportunities for young women in particular.

To attend local education, girls must travel at least one hour by bus to George and stay in hostels that are not well supervised during the week.

This not only prohibits them to attend due to the cost of transportation, but also lack of money causes many of the young women to miss school regularly as they do not have the funds to buy adequate personal hygiene products.

Brittney Skeates, associate of 3 WIBN groups in Essex, is South African herself and understands personally the deprivations in such a community with no work, no transport and very little hope.

Brittney Skeates said: “At the three WIBN groups I run, all my members have committed to help Wild Swans by donating £10 during the month of April to help the young women attend school.

"I would like to challenge all other members of WIBN around the country to join us and pledge £10 which will be helping one young woman to continue with her education for two months WIBN is passionate about helping and supporting Women in Business to not only grow their business but personal development in a safe environment.

"With this is mind all members of my three WIBN Groups have accepted the challenge to support The Wild Swans in South Africa in the month of April by donating £10.

"This will enable one young women to attend school for two months giving them the opportunity to learn new skills and be equipped for a more promising journey through life.

"So if we can lock arms together and support this very worthy cause and one which is close to my heart it would be very much appreciated”.
