RAIL bosses at Abellio Greater Anglia are determined to work on consistency after latest punctuality figures showed improvement.

In March, 93 per cent of journeys were on time on the network, higher than the national average of 91.2 per cent.

The line between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria is the train operator’s most punctual route, with 94.6 per cent of trains running on time for the year ending on March 31.

For all routes, Greater Anglia had an overall 91.1 per cent punctuality rate for the 12 months.

The company, which serves Chelmsford, believes March’s improved performance shows recent investment and infrastructure work is having a positive impact.

Managing director Jamie Burles said: “We’re pleased to have provided better train performance for our customers during March, with some excellent results across a number of our routes.

“We know we have more to do to achieve better results on a more consistent basis, for all of our services, but these figures show positive progress.

“We will continue to work closely with Network Rail to further improve performance.”

Commuter services are measured as punctual if trains arrive at their final destination within five minutes of scheduled times.

South Essex operator c2c was the most punctual in the UK, according to the most recent Network Rail figures, with 96.9 per cent of trains on time.
