A mum has reached out to thank the people that helped her daughter and comforted her dog when he was hit by a car.

Louise Howlett, 23, was walking her family's dogs in Copperfield Road, Chelmsford, when their beloved three-year-old dog, Oscar, was hit by a car on Saturday.

Louise's mum, Sarah Howlett, of Chelmsford, said: "At the time of the accident it was just my daughter, but various people stopped and helped her as the car that hit Oscar did not stop.

"I just wanted to say a big thank you to all those kind people that helped my daughter and comforted our beloved Oscar whilst he was lying in the road.

"By stroking him and covering him with their coats to keep him warm, and helping get my other dog back who was very scared.

"It is a very hard time for us to deal with the tragic accident but the kindness of all those people is such a comfort and I just wanted to thank them as at the time of the chaos it just wasn't possible.

"I would also like to let them people know that sadly he didn't make it and passed away, but as peacefully as he could thanks to their help."
