A PROCESSION of light was held at Essex University to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
Holocaust survivor Frank Bright lit one of 70 candles specially-commissioned by the UK Holocaust Memorial Day Trust to commemorate the anniversary.
The candles, designed by Sir Anish Kapoor, were part of the 70 Candles for 70 Years project, which saw similar events across the UK.
The ceremony was followed by a procession of light through the university by students and members of the Jewish community. Mr Bright said: “Sometimes I feel people do not realise what happened in the Holocaust, or have forgotten.
Events in France and Europe show the anti-Semitism, which caused the Holocaust, is continuing.”
