VIEWPOINTS are being sought on the creation of another primary school in north Colchester.
Essex County Council and the Department for Education are building the 420-pupil school to keep pace with housing developments.
The £5million school will be built on five acres of land off Northern Approach Road, next to the former Severalls Hospital.
A total of 1,500 homes are being built on the old hospital site, and the school will be financed by contributions from developers.
Work on the two-storey school is likely to start next spring and the first pupils could start in September 2016.
Colchester Council has received a planning application for the school and has to pass on its views to the county council by January 8.
Last month, the Chelmsford Diocese revealed it was among a number of organisations bidding to Essex County Council to run the school.
The final decision will rest with the Department for Education, upon the council’s recommendation.
If the diocese’s bid is successful, it would be the first Anglican church school to open in the borough since the Victorian era.
