Burnham: Police investigate alleged rape
4:57pm Sunday 21st October 2012 in News
Police are investigating claims a woman woke up in a field after being raped by a motorist.
The woman contacted officers shortly before 7am today, claiming she was attacked in the Latchingdon and Southminster area earlier in the morning.
She woke up in the field off Burnham Road at 4am but could not remember what had happened to her since 9pm yesterday.
She walked to Southminster Police Station where she reported the alleged attack.
Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Insp Simon Werrett, said: "We are lacking detail during a ten-hour window in which time this woman is alleging she was raped.
"We’re keen to identify the male driver of a blue car who may help us.
"Furthermore, we keen to hear from other motorists who saw this woman walking along the country roads during Saturday night or early Sunday morning.”
The driver of the blue car is described as white, aged about 60, and of large build.
He wore a brown jacket and brown checked shirt, has a double chin and wears glasses.
The woman, who lives in the Southminster area, was interviewed by specially-trained officers at the county’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
Anyone with information in connection with the investigation is urged to contact Essex Police’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team in Colchester on 101 or email soit @essex.pnn.police.uk.
