A 93-year-old Maldon woman certainly has a good reason to celebrate her church’s 75th anniversary - she has attended almost every single Sunday service.

Phyllis Bentley, of London Road, Maldon, is now the only surviving member of Fullbridge Church’s first congregation in 1937.

Miss Bentley, who has attended almost 4,000 of Fullbridge Church’s services since becoming a Christian when she was 17, said she had seen lots of changes since the church began.

She said: “When I first started we only had a pedal organ and nobody in the church had a car.

“Now everyone drives and we have lots of instruments - we have got drums, pianos, flutes and trumpets.”
