Police uncovered 243 cannabis plants in a drugs raid.

Officers discovered the large haul, which would have had a street value of thousands of pounds, at a property in Chalk Street, Rettendon, last Thursday.

A 29-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and obstructing electricity.

He was bailed while investigations continue.

Sgt Perry Land, of Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers Police, said: “Over the last few years cannabis has gone from being imported to being cultivated in this country and often in remote locations.

“If anybody sees suspicious activity then we would urge them to inform us so we can follow it up.”
