Maldon district: Changes to social housing policy on the way

Changes in social housing policy have been welcomed by ex-service personnel, but less so by big families.

Changes to the Gateway to Homechoice scheme have been approved by Maldon District Council’s Community Services Committee.

Under the new policy, children of the opposite sex sharing a bedroom will be expected to share until the eldest reaches 10 (previously five) at which point they will be eligible to be considered for an extra bedroom and get overcrowding priority on the register

I hope that single occupancy tenants will be removed from multi bedroom properties.

I know several lone occupants in Heybridge with 3 bedroom social housing flats.
