Maldon's MP is calling for more work to be done to combat racism in football.

John Whittingdale , chairman of the House of Commons culture select committee, said in the committee report that racism remains a "significant problem" in British football despite improvements in recent years.

Mr Whittingdale, who chaired an inquiry following high-profile incidents last season, urged the Football Association to “take the lead” over the problem.

He said: "Recent incidents of racist abuse in the UK, both on and off the pitch, have highlighted the fact that there remain significant problems."
