Unemployment in the district has risen for the first time since March.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics showed the number of people in the Maldon district claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance climbed narrowly from 863 in July to 866 in August.
The small rise left the percentage of people in the district out of work unchanged at 2.2 per cent.
Elsewhere in Essex, figures for the same period followed the national trend and fell in nearby Colchester, Chelmsford and Braintree.
Nationally, the Olympics is thought to have driven the fall in unemployment, but the boost to jobs from London hosting the Games does not appear to have stretched to Maldon.
