Maldon district: MP's Paralympics medal honour
Maldon's MP has spoken of his pride after presenting flowers to winning athletes at the Paralympics.
John Whittingdale , who has represented Maldon in Parliament since 1992, was asked to present flowers to the medallists in the F54/55/56 women’s shotput, F33/34 man’s javelin and T46 women’s 200 metres.
Mr Whittingdale, who is chairman of the House of Commons culture, media and sport select committee, said: “Having spent seven years chairing the committee monitoring preparations for the Games, it was a tremendous honour to be asked to present the flowers to the Paralympic medal winners in the Olympic Stadium.
“The atmosphere in the stadium was tremendous and even though Team GB did not win a medal in these particular categories, the warmth of the crowd’s reception was very moving.”
