Maldon shop owners are campaigning for a new skate park in town amid claims the existing one is dangerous.

Lee Smythe, 38, who owns Bored Skateshop, and Duncan Kennedy, 24, owner of Void Bikeshop, which are both in the High Street, set up a petition last week urging Essex County Council to take action.

Since then hundreds of children and parents have signed the petition in both shops.

The determined duo want the council to spend more money on the skate park, in Promenade Park, in Park Drive, to make it a place where people can be proud to visit.

Mr Smythe said: “Everybody moans about it.

“The sheet metal is starting to peel up in some places and it is really dangerous."
