Maldon: Gutsy pensioner thwarts thieves

A plucky pensioner has thwarted the attempts of thieves to steal her purse.

Two men tried to steal the elderly woman’s purse from her handbag in Iceland in Maldon’s High Street last Tuesday.

But when she noticed and challenged them, they ran away.

Police believe the two men followed the elderly woman, who used a mobility scooter, from Santander bank at around 1:30pm.

The men are of mixed race appearance.

The first man was wearing a turquoise tracksuit, is 5’9”, of stocky build and has cropped dark hair.

The second man was wearing a white top and jeans and bright green trainers.
