What with the airport being a fighter airfield during the war I’m pleased to think that SBC and Stoberts made an extensive inquiry as to if there where any dangerous ordinance on and around the fields where now is the extended runway.
I know The Eastwood High School did before the new running track was constructed on the lower field at Kent Elms.

Of course fighters would carry bombs and drop them around the airfield! And I didn't know the running track at Eastwood High School was bombed by the Germans or used to store bombs!

I think you'll find that the Luftwaffe were in the habit of bombing airfields and their aim wasn't always spot on.
Maybe this is why Eastwood High School felt the need to check the surrounding area?

There were bombs droped around all the Southend area even a V1 came down behind Eastwood School and a V2 near the school in Shirly Road. I made no mention of storing bombs nor did I say that any running track was bombed. The track I wrote of was only completed last year. I think The Eastwood School or its contractors had an official check made by a company skilled in such searches just to make sure that the area was clear before they started digging. Better safe than sorry.

On reflection it was a V2 in Brooklands Avenue, behind the school. (Shrapnel marks can still be seen in the school railings) and a V1 flying bomb on Shirly Road. Of cause not all bombs exploded and some penetrated deeply into the ground.

???

I fail to see why this story warrants any kind of response of that nature

as on this occasion there is some actual 'news' to the story.

So what the airport creating 500 new jobs that would not have come to Southend had the airport not expanded was not worthy news.

Max, I myself have somewhat lost the thread here. We were discussing unexploded bombs not new jobs

Every other story relating to the airport is a non-story according to jayman, even moans about the jobs created. This is airport related but is news... Why because of possible delays so he can crow on about it? I was making a point about his hypocrisy.
